Wilson’s Plover in Harris Co.

John Berner called me Friday morning, informing me he had just found a new Harris Co. record, a Wilson’s Plover at El Jardin Beach. While we were on the phone Rock Pigeons apparently flushed the bird. When I arrived thirty minutes later, the shorebirds had thinned out and I couldn’t find it, but a Mourning Warbler in the weeds was a consolation. The bird was seen again Saturday morning and by Sunday I didn’t tale any chances. Leaving at 6 am the plan was to beat the sunrise and local dog walkers. I pulled up simultaneously with Janet Rathjen and several minutes later, despite one person with a dog beating us to the beach, she found the bird. We had great looks and while standing around in even walked within ten feet of us. Otherwise just the regular species on the beach and in the bay.
