El Franco Lee Park: Least Grebe and the wetland drying up

I always expected this species to show up here and it finally did. A single Least Grebe among the throngs of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, Mottled and Wood Ducks. The water is getting precariously low, lots of shorebirds on the mudflats. Least, Semipalmated, Western, Pectoral, Spotted Sandpipers plus both Yellowlegs.  But the numbers of all other birds have dropped, herons and egrets are almost gone. The situation is becoming quite desperate and it would greatly help to pump some water from Clear Creek into the impoundment. Hopefully that can start soon. I’ll try to have some photos up later in the day.
